New Work: vivo
Justus Oehler and his Berlin design team have created a new tableware brand called vivo for the German porcelain company Villeroy & Boch. Oehler named, created an identity for and designed the new brand that includes ceramic, glass and cutlery products. Designed to appeal to a young audience, the tableware is contemporary in aesthetic, multifunctional, durable and will sell at a lower price than the company’s other, more traditional, lines.
The identity revolves around the handwritten vivo logo that is consistently carried out in black and white and is always combined with the company’s name. “Villeroy & Boch wanted to bring out a new, separate brand that differs from the main brand without weakening or questioning it,” says Oehler. “So we suggested the name ‘vivo’ as it fits very well with Villeroy & Boch – especially sound wise – and it expresses exactly what the brand stands for: ‘vivo’ means ‘I live’ and ‘alive’ in Italian…and what goes better with such a name than a handwritten logo?”
The project is featured in, amongst others, the Russian design magazine [kAk), on Dexigner and the website of the French magazine Étapes.
